has it something to do with coughlan asking stephny for the weight balance data of Ferrari 07 car in march ,which Renault have said they have only just found out by trial and error,
what surprises me how fast mclaren have adapted to the bridgestone since the first grand prix in march ,yet honda and renault are still strugling with tyre wear.
if ferrari had the mclaren book people on here would be calling for ferrari to be expelled from f1.
so do you think mclaren have used the ferrari info for their weight and break balance etc.

You make me laugh, G m.

Please don't ask questions based on false rumors...now we have too many answers to your questions by answerers who have been fooled by your rumors.

That idiot Flavio Briatore was the one who started saying this baseless rumors. But that fool is wrong...unlike Renault, McLaren do not sleep. We are talking about the 2nd most successful team in F1.

McLaren started working on their current car, the MP4-22, way back at the end of 2005. The MP4-22 is basically a heavily re-engineered version of the MP4-21 which Kimi drove for McLaren in 2006. So, I am not surprised that McLaren has had plenty of experience and had easily accomodated with the Bridgestone tyres.

If you think I am wrong, then consider the dates. History does not lie:

December, 2005: Michelin announced their withdrawal from Formula One.

Winter 2005-2006: McLaren work on the MP4-21 for 2006. They also begin the program to prepare the 2007 car!

June-July, 2006: The MP4-22 for 2007 is completed by McLaren. But crucial information like tyres, weight distribution, aerodynamics are yet to be finished.

August, 2007: McLaren finalise their MP4-22 "would-be" Championship winning car for 2007. Aerodynamics are yet to be added. The team had to wait for Fernando Alonso to come in January 1st, 2007 for additional technical input. The car is fully prepared without Michelin tyre calulations. All that is left is winter testing with Bridgestones to complete the development of the car.

Nov 2006-March 2007: The team vigorously develops the MP4-22. Testing is done with the new tyres and several technical changes are made. Fernando Alonso provides valuable information. McLaren honor Fernando's demands to make the cockpit lower. Several changes are made to accomodate the Bridgestones.

MOST IMPORTANT: The most important technical "victory" by McLaren was the successful integration of the Mercedes engine into the MP4-22 chassis. As all of you can remember the famous DNF's of Kimi...it was all caused by the failure to integrate the engine with the car causing severe imbalances. That problem was solved by McLaren in the 2007 car.

So, there you go...ever heard of the word PROACTIVE? Proactiviness make a team go forward to success. NO WONDER MCLAREN HAS A GOOD CAR FOR 2007. They started work early and finished it early. So, no wonder McLaren had it easy...and not utterly stupid cheating from Ferrari.

So, while fool Briatore was chasing the 2006 Championships for Renault, he decided to halt/stop work on the Renault R27 car for 2007. He decided that all of Renault's engineers must work to get Alonso to win in 2006.

And now Briatore pays the price for that slackness and now he says McLaren cheated. What arrogance! This funny little man is a joker and should not be listened to. Hypocrite.

No! No! No! No! It has nothing to do with Ferraris data. The McLaren is a totally different car and therefore is balanced differently. There has ben no cheating with the tyres. McLaren had already been improving the car towards the end of last season. As those documents didn't come to light until the middle of the season, how did Lewis manage to get his four podiums and two wins before the documents went missing. If McLaren had used that data to improve their performance, then surely Lewis wouldn't have been getting anywhere before the event. In addition, if Ferrari's data is so good that it is helping McLaren win, how come Ferrari are underperforming? As it is data that is specific to the build of the Ferrari, surely Ferrari should be steamin ahead, especially with their resistance reducing hub caps. As a final point, we know why Lewis has a better car than Fernando and the reason is public knowledge. When Fernando arrived at McLaren, he didn't like their braking system and insisted on a (believe it or not) Renault braking system being installed LOL. Therefore, that proves that the teams have different braking systems and therefore the Ferrari data regarding weigh, balance, braking etc. is of no use to McLaren whatsoever. The only thing McLaren could gain is a good estimate on the performance of the Ferrari. In other words, McLaren would have a good idea whether the Ferrari was going to be lightning fast or sluggish.

Have to give credit to McLaren (answerer above), the MP4-22 was in action before the said espionage began and is an excellent mechanical and aerodynamical blend. As he said, the engine integration is a wonder. With such blends tyre balance is not a wonder.

Check it out, the Ferrari's were fastest in almost all the races, but the McLaren reliability is unprecedented. There is no way stolen Ferrari data could benefit a Mercedes engine.

During the ITV broadcast yesterday Allen and Hill were talking about this. Something along the lines of Renault overlooked something; but there was NO INDICATION of McLaren cheating. This is getting to be nuts, all these questions suggesting McLaren are cheating left right and centre. We are talking about one of the greatest teams in Formula One history. They have won races, constructor's and driver's titles repeatedly in the four decades of the team. It's not as if they were Spyker suddenly going to the top.

Yes, they did not win a race last year, but that does not make them cheaters.

Ferrari went through a period of several years where they did not win races, even in 1991 Prost could not win a race for the team. Were people calling them cheaters when after only one win in 94 and 95 Schumacher won three in 1996 and then five in 1997? The only cheating there was Schumacher on the track!

I think it sad that whenever a person or an outfit do well, recover from a bad year, and so on, that all that can be done is to label them cheats.

Exactly.

McLaren have the stolen information on Ferrari's car and Bridgestone tyres. Obviously, yes, they would've used the information for their car. Which team wouldn't want to win?

McLaren denied that they gained any advantages from sacked Ferrari engineer, Nigel Stepney providing them with a whooping amount of 780 pages of confidential Ferrari information. Ferrari have been using Bridgestone for 10 years and so, all their data and information would be all stated clearly in those 780 pages.

Those 780 pages have obviously saved McLaren months of work and to find an immediate solution to be the fastest car on grid.

Go figure...

I thought about this question long and hard,
why would a chief designer ask for another team data if they were not going to use it.
but did coughlan use this information on the mclaren car ,well maybe he did or maybe he didn't ! will we ever know?
one things for sure someone telling lies!

Cheated well they were found guilty by the fia ,no one can deny that ,yet they received no punishment.
they admitted that that coughlan asked stephny for info regarding weights and break balance ,why would he ask for this info if he wasn't going to use it.
f1 is not a sport but a billion dollar industry and that all that matters to the fia and Bernie

mclaren -
is new to bridgestone tyres,
has 2 new drivers this season, and
lost a few senior engineers early in the season.

isn't it obvious they've cheated (in any way)??

2 new drivers to the team. they have started from scratch and found their preferred set up. they haven't had to 'un-learn' last years car. the Honda's are just not up to scratch this year, period.
