Besides Spain which is still hot in October, there's the north of Africa, like Tunisia and Egypt. They are within 5 hour flying time for Europe, though you didn't specify where you are from.

We went to corfu late september one year and it was gorgeous - still very hot and quiet as the kids had gone back to school. I would recommend corfu highly - we went to an area called paleocastritsa (well something like that anyway) which was a nice quiet, relaxing area.
I guess most of the greek islands will still be great that time of year, and the further south the island lies, the hotter I guess it will be.
hope that helps

I realise you mention 5hrs flying time, but if you could put up with another boring hour, Gambia on the west coast of Africa would be ideal. Its hot and many of the hotels have private beaches and all the services you could wish for.
Just an idea!!!

I'd be inclined to go for the Canaries as it's only 3-4hours flying time (depending where you live), it has all-year sun and fantastic beaches.

My personal favourite would be Fuerteventura.
