The problem with socialism... and communism... is that they only work if EVERYONE is honest.
Which means they can't work on Earth.

We all are...
Our taxes go to pay for things that are meant to serve the greater public good. Police, fire depts., streets and highways, libraries... do I need to go on? How about NASA or our military? These are all functioning socialistic endevors.
Socialism is not dictatorship, totalitarianism, communism, capitalism or religion. It just a way for us to get some things done that we cannot do as individuals or small groups.
I don't think that socialism is better than capitalism. There needs to be a balance between the two. Capitalism can be a vile and nasty thing when taken to the extreme.
Moderation in all things.

I believe that a combination of capitalism and socialism works best. Capitalism allows a great deal of personal freedom and rewards people for their strengths. However, it also lends itself to a little more "survival of the fittest" than can fully support a healthy community--who pays for our schools, after all? Who pays for our roads? Few countries have survived too great a chasm between the haves and half-nots. If all capitalists in the country know that, say, 20% of their profits are going toward the community good, they're still working in an even playing field. On the other hand, full blown socialism would discourage the entrepreneurial strengths of capitalism, and thus undermine itself.
As long as we think it must be 100% one or 100% the other, we'll suffer more than is necessary.

IN order for Capitalism to continue and the economy to stay afloat then medicine needs to become Socialist or something to that effect.
Here is the problem see When Clinton sign NAFTA what happen was many companies left the US not just because of wages but because of the outrageous Medical Insurance premiums. That's why some of them went north of the boarder. Their wages aren't less then American wages when converted. However the companies don't have to pay for Medical Insurance.
IN order to keep companies in the US one issue that must be dealt with is Health Insurance. Solutions need to be had. So Companies will want to stay instead of leave.

I would support a Socialist Democracy rather than a Capitalist Democracy. I believe that goods and services such as healthcare and education should be provided by the State out of public funds. I also beieve that the State should ensure that private businesses adhere to regulations guaranteeing a decent wage and decent working conditions and preventing the exploitation of workers. I also believe that the natural resources of a country, such as oil, gas, coal etc are the property of all the people of that country and should be exploited by sate owned companies with profits going back into public funds instead of into the hands of private businessmen

I like the Socialist idea of more equality of services to everyone. Kind of like Kaiser Permanente as an HMO (Health Maintenance Organization).
If the CEO of companies could make not over 10 times the salary (plus benefits) of the lowest-paid person in the company, it would be a big improvement in Capitalism, though!

no one thinks socialism is better than capitalism. the united states of america is the most powerful country in the world because it was founded on the idea of capitalism. Socialism (and communism) are evil, despite what liberals will tell you.

Don't listen to the morons who say the fire department is Socialist. Socialism leads to murder and loss of rights.

Liberals support socialism, as it gives something for nothing. The rest of America supports capitalism, as it gives you what you earn.

Hope you don't mind, but I wanted two points tonight. I am not a Socialist, so can't legitimately answer your question. Sorry, but as a Conservative Republican, which it seems you might also be, I didn't think you would mind allowing me a mere two points. Thank you.
