I just moved to a new place and the screens on the windows in my room have some holes in them. Rather than buy new ones, what can I use to patch them up? I tried packaging tape and duct tape, neither of those work.

Rick is right. You can sew the patch in also if it's to big and won't hold or, it's fiberglass and the ends won't bend.
I've also used a needle and thread and, have just sewn the screen.

You can buy these "patches" at Home Depot also.

Clear fingernail polish , a couple of layers will keep it together!!!
Don't waste time patching... if you buy the screen material to patch (cheap at Walmart) you might as well replace the whole thing. It is so easy!!! Take the screen out and lay it flat...Pull out the black spline around the edge of the screen, lay the new sceen material over the frame to get an idea of size and trim it off (leaving a bit extra) with scissors. Place the spline back in the crevice, starting at a corner and push it in with a splining tool(I use a pizza cutter) keep pulling the spline and pulling the screen tight as you go along. It is ok to have over hang because once you get the screen tight and the spline back in the crevice, you cut the extra off with a utility knife and you are a do it yourself master!!
Good luck!
