yeah, rock from here sucks now.
most of the current bands I listen to are from the UK.
and the one's I listen to from here are underground/punk/indie bands.

What makes a band big? Well it's money. The money has to come first to at least do the promotion and touring. This requires a band to sign with a company willing to pay for this act. The U.S. companies are unwilling to pay for these acts when they can make more money creating hit solo pretty singing artists and keep the bands in the background.
They may blame piracy, but it doesn't explain why there are fewer people seeing new acts live while older acts are getting the concert goers. It got so bad this year some new "big name" produced solo acts cancelled their touring this year because of poor ticket sales. Again the production companies don't care in the U.S. because touring actually loses money for them even with expensive tickets.
If you want to see great American talent with new acts, you are going to have to go indie and bypass the production companies all together. That means no radio or MTV.
So why would producers kill their own industry? Well because they are not in it for decades anymore. They last a few years and either hit it rich and quit or move on.

Well I think both have given the world some great artists. I like quite a few bands from England, but I like a lot of American bands too.

because england is the home of rock!! think about it first with the punk, new age, and new romantics in the 80s and it has progressed thoughout the 90s, but read about the sunset strip in usa, motley crue and hannoi rocks they are glam tho (Blah) but bands are always out there they dont have to be commercial to be good

You are generalising..("..really popular"..)..to whom are you referring? Arctic Monkeys are good but then so are The White Stripes. You could choose Babyshambles over Queens of the Stone Age?Hmmm..methinkus you are young and not aware of Music as an art form, not a fashion.

because the general public doesn't like the new rock or metal bands or any country for that matter because most ppl i think are kinda still saying the 80's are better and we haven't grown to accept most new music in the rock sense because it does not sound like glam or hair metal but im pretty sure rap is doing ok in other countries

Because popular does not equal good. There are plenty of really popular bands that are terrible.
