At one time taking Divorce for Indian Christians were very difficult as only very few grounds were available for that, but after the Indian Divorce amendment Act, 2001 there are more grounds available to get divorce, even with the provision regarding the divorce by mutual consent under section 10A of this Act can be used for dissolving such a irretrievable broken marriage for sufficient time. You can also seek divorce from your husband if he doesn't agree for divorce by mutual consents on any of the grounds such his desertion of two years or more, cruelty towards you. You can even seek maintenance pendentillite during the pedency of the divorce proceedings under section 36 of the Act & even get Alimony or permanent maintenance under section 37 of the Act after passing of the decree of Divorce. The best way to get this divorce is by mutual consent as it takes only more the 6 months but less then 18 months to decide from the date of presentation of such joint petition for divorce filed by both husband & wife. Otherwise the divorce on other grounds may take many years to finalize.
