It burns your insides. I know someone who drank draino & he was in the hospital for several days with serious burns to his mouth, esophagus & stomach. It was bad - he almost died.

Ummmmm it has a corrosive effect on drain/pipe clogs and on pipes---- how much more your esophagus, stomach, and intestines. Picture Draino burning the lining of your gastric system. That's what makes it poisonous.

Well...Because it contains all of these things.
1. Sodium hydroxide (NaOH), also known as lye or caustic soda or sodium hydrate, is a caustic metallic base. Forming a strongly alkaline solution when dissolved in a solvent such as water, caustic soda is widely used in many industries, mostly as a strong chemical base in the manufacture of pulp and paper, textiles, drinking water, soaps and detergents. Worldwide production in 1998 was around 45 million tonnes. Sodium hydroxide is also the most common base used in chemical laboratories, and it is also widely used as a drain cleaner.
2.Sodium nitrate (not to be confused with sodium nitride or sodium nitrite) is the chemical compound with the formula NaNO3. This salt has long been used as an ingredient in fertilizers, explosives, and in solid rocket propellants, as well as in glass and pottery enamels; the compound has been mined extensively for those purposes.
3. Sodium chloride, also known as common salt, table salt, or halite, is a chemical compound with the formula NaCl. Sodium chloride is the salt most responsible for the salinity of the ocean and of the extracellular fluid of many multicellular organisms. As the main ingredient in edible salt, it is commonly used as a condiment and food preservative. In one gram of sodium chloride, there are approximately 0.3933 grams of sodium, and 0.6067 g of chlorine.
4.Aluminium (IPA: /ËæljÊËmɪniÉm/, /ËæljÉËmɪniÉm/) or aluminum (IPA: /ÉËluËmɪnÉm/, see the "spelling" section below) is a silvery and ductile member of the poor metal group of chemical elements. It has the symbol Al; its atomic number is 13.
