I am already short tempered but near that time of the month my anger intensifies....my close friend has a thing for incessantly talking about her self (her views, her days, her adventures, blah blah blah). And she claims she's a "good listener." Sh'es also pretentious, thus we clash. I do admit she's very smart. Its overdoing it that's the problem.
I come very close to erupting in swearing words.
I also get more self-deprecative due to the bloating

Any suggestions

All of us get a little short during our favorite time of month (that was a joke). But what concerns me is the panic attacks. If you are getting them only during or right before menstration, that narrows things down to probably being related to a hormonal imbalance, which in a strange way is a good thing because it makes it easier to treat. The BCP is a very good option because it does even out the hormones,. however I don't think the BCP is going to "fix" the problem entirely, (but it will help the bloating and the generalized anger that naturally occurs during that time).

You may want to check with your ob-gyn for other options. They may have some miracle drug just for what you have, but I suspect if you tell them everything they will refer you to a psychiatrist. I'm NOT saying you are crazy, I think you just have a biochemical imbalance that can be easily fixed with the right meds. Imagine....pop one little pill and the anger and anxiety and frustration all go away. If for no other reason than that, it's well worth an hour of your time to consult with a professional.

Good luck.

I have a friend who uses PMS as a reason / permission to take a little time for herself [ok, so it's really a week, but she works hard]. She calls it "caving," like a bear's den - she indulges herself with bubble baths by candlelight, reading romance novels or whatever else tickles her fancy, and takes lots of time to meditate / walk in the park / veg with the tv. Give it a try - if you don't take care of yourself, you won't have anything to give to the people you want to / have to care for.

I, thankfully, never had PMS or cramps -- I credit a vegetarian lifestyle with yoga practice and at least a pint of soymilk each and every day. Of course, it could also be having no husband and adult kids...

Part of your problem (ups & downs) could be pretty much be obliterated by taking the BCP. It keeps your hormones even, and that keeps your moods even.

However, panic attacks, etc. is not part of the hormone thing, it's more of a psyychiatric problem. Go see a psychiatrist, let him check you out, and see if you might need some medication.

Meditate! Just sit in a quiet room with some soft music and focus on your breath...i find this helps tremendously! Afterwords, write down your worries and fears in a journal. This works great with me...also just spend some time with your chickens, or other poultry. I raise banny chickens and oddly enough, I find them relaxing!! Or just sit with other pets and stroke them. Just petting at cat or dog can lower your blood pressure.

I really hope this helps. I have to find ways to deal with this because I can get soo bad (hitting head on walls, slamming fists on keyboard, shoving chairs into walls, or start a cussing fit) I am 13 so this could get bad. We need to find ways to relax...

i totally understand...

to be honest i look forward to my period now lol... because my hubby knows that that is the week that i get anything i want and get pampered till i see fit lol...

seriously though, indulge! nice hot bubble bath (use a tampon), get a nice back and foot rub, eat your favorite sweet in the world (that is my cheesecake and ice cream week lol.. and turtle chex mix mmmm)

take some midol or ibuprofin (hope i spelled that right), and if you need some time away from your friend then take it, take a personal day and watch a movie or something, relax and light some candles... spray some perfume or lavander on your sheets and just doze off!

Are you taking the contraceptive pill? It has been suggested that this helps as it balances your hormones and makes them more consistent, hopefully leading to less tendencies to have mood swings. Some doctors also put women with acne issues on it to also balance hormones. Good luck...hopefully you will find something that calms you.

RELAX, dont get too excited answering back or having to say anything at all. just listen and let ur friend be. u dont even have to listen to it all.. remember, ur her friend who has to listen to her when she needed someone to talk to. same way with u to her, right?

studies show that drinking orang juice, greatly decreases the sympoms of pms. it worked for me.
you might also have more than just regular pms. it could be pmdd, which requires medication. tell your doctor.
