The sun's diameter is about 109 times that of the Earth.

The Earth has to travel at close to 30 km/second in its orbit around the sun.

Ignore the sun's diameter. The radius of Earth's orbit is 93 million miles - the added distance from the surface of the sun to the core is insignificant.

"Fast" mean a rate. Assume a circular orbit and find that circle's circumfrance. Then it's X millions of miles/365 days.

Express the answer in miles per hour

yup ignore the suns diameter, not needed.
find the distance that the earth would travel around the sun
C = 2 x pi x r
C = 2 x 3.14 x 93,000,000
C = 584,040,000

And because it travels the distance in on year the speed of the earth would be
=584,040,000mls.year (or divide by 365)
=1,600,109mls/day (or divide by 24)
=66,671mls/hour
quite the nifty.
