Manny Ramirez has 489 with 19 homeruns this season, I think he could beat Jim Thome who has 490 with 18 homeruns this season. They both may reach 500 this season.

Jim Thome, Manny Ramirez, and Gary Sheffield all are with 12 or so. But look at the list beyond them. There are NO sure-fire 500 home run hitters beyond that. No doubt some will make it, but the rash of 500 career guys is dwindling.

The next batter chasing 500 is Jim Thome at 490 but I don't see him getting 10 more home runs this year. If he plays next year he gets it. Next closest is Manny Ramirez with 489 who I believe will finish the year very strong, he's been hot lately and get 500 home runs this year.

The short answer is either Thome or Ramierez. Both should hit their 500th before the end of this year. Very early next year at the latest. Sheffield stands a very outside chance of beating them too it and might just get 500 this year but most likely it's early next year for Sheffield.
In 07 at least 5 players started the year withing stirking distance of 500 HRs. Thomas and A-Rod have already done it. Thome will probably do it before the end of the year. He only needs 10 more. Sheffield will probably top 500 very early next year but might still get there this year. Manny Ramierez will probably top 500 at very end of the year or early next year.
Carlos Delgado and Mike Piazza both need a good year or two and a half season after that but both are slowing down so much there is a good chance they will fall short of 500 HRs. After Manny, Sheffield and Thome top 500 I'm guessing the next group to hit the 500 club will be Chipper Jones, Vlad Guerrero with Todd Helton maybe getting to 500 and doing it about the same time as Chipper and Vllad.
If Piazza and Delgado reach 500 it'll probably be between 2009 and 2011. Both have 420 some and with two good years could be there. Both are unlikely to have 40+ HR seasons left in them.
Chipper Jones and Vlad will hit theirs around 2011
Helton might stay up with them but it looks more like 2012 or 2013 for Helton.
Andrew Jones if he has another year as bad as this one may not be a starter for anybody at the end of next year or he might wind up in a Cubs or Redsox uniform and challenge 50. Next year will say a great deal about his chances of hitting 500 and when it might be expected. Andrew Jones with a career revival could reach 500 as soon as 2011.
That leaves the next group challenging 500 being Pujos, Konerko, Glaus, Berkman, Ordenez and Eric Chavez. Pujos will leap past the pack and probably hit his 500th in 2011 or 2012. The rest if they can stay healthy and play long enough will hit theirs around 2014.
Adam Dunn and Amarmond Ramierez stand outside shots of hitting their 500th and if they do it'll probably be around the 2014 time frame. By 2014 there will be new sluggers who will zip up the HR ranks so even more will join the 500 HR club.
