I always see people talk about how much of a sin homosexuality is, but when it comes to the other sins mentioned in the bible (eating shellfish, wearing clothing of mixed fabrics, working on Sunday, to name a few) they are not preached against whatsoever. And in fact many Christians engage in these things REGULARLY. So why the double standard? Why should they be allowed to base hate on a "sin" mentioned in the bible if they're practicing other sins themselves?

I hear what you're saying and agree entirely. There seems to be an awful lot of cherry-picking and hypocrisy going on in this area. If you're going to criticize and chastise people who are not living according to the Bible then you yourself should be following all the doctrines. If you're not then shut the f*** up and leave others alone. Even if you are then you should still mind your own business because your religious beliefs may not be the same as theirs.

If you are talking about why the talk about homosexuality more than any other "sin" I'd have to say I don't know. Has anyone else noticed that in the entire Bible there are 2 lines against homosexual acts but the Bible was filled with other sins such as adultry. Eating shellfish was considered not as much of a sin due to sanitary conditions rising. ((Which quite frankly I still don't understand why that was a sin)) From a church that accept gays point of view they see it as a sin for a straight man to have gay sex. But even then every sin is counted the same so I don't really see what it matters in the end if he died for our sins, than if me having sex with another guy was a "sin" it'd be equal to any other person wearing some kind of coat with cotton and polyester right? But I really don't know why. Probably because God made a big commotion out of Sodom story. All of the men of Sodom couldn't have been homosexual or there would have been no need to destroy them. If they had all been homosexuals, they would have all died off leaving no heirs. Which means being gay would not exist. That probably makes people think God hates gays. If the men were indeed homosexuals, then why would Lot offer them his daughters?

I guess people just need some hate to live.

Peace.

Also for the comment above me:
A complete reading of these passages dealing with Paul, in their original context, clearly shows that what Paul was actually referring to was homosexual temple prostitution, which was performed by various cults (though far more cults used heterosexual prostitution). Again, Paul is not referring to same-sex love, and he clearly has no concept of persons for whom this lifestyle is “natural.”

They do it because they have a self interest in everybody acting like they do. Our society has formed in such a way where people automatically assume without reason that everybody will get married and have kids.

In fact, I have my doubts about the bible's condemnation of homosexuality. With so many translations, verses that I saw as a child became less and less ambiguous over time.

People have a tendency to take statements and facts out of context to support their argument. Not only do people in the general public do it, but so do a whole bunch of others. The governement does it every day. They take a few possible facts or unsupported facts and take action. For example, the war in Iraq. Politicians do it everyday especially during election time. If we held politicians liable for their statements, then maybe they would be more truthful. I get tired of hearing about what the others did wrong. I would love to hear what a politician plans on doing and then actually see them do it.

Because hypocrisy is a big part of a fake christian's life. But you can always separate the fakes out easily by the way that they talk...

If they use the bible to condemn, just tell them the bible says "don't be fooled, no one will see god if they don't bear good fruit" And those fakeys always show themselves for what they really are.

For example, please take Newt Gingrich.
Long-time leader of the Republican party, he has called Homosexuality "immoral" and has said that gay marrige will degrade the sanctity of marrige. However, he has been married 4 times, and has admitted to having multiple affairs.

Moral of the story? Most people highlight certain sins and not others so that they feel better about themselves. They need something or somebody to hate on.

Because most Christians like to follow and persecute by picking stuff from column A and column B

I'm not going to worry about hurting peoples feelings because God comes first. but i will try to help you (which i want to but nobody's perfect of course) anyway:
See. there are two different kinds of sins that are mainly taught in Catholicism. they are mortal sins and venial sins.
The first that you mentioned would be mortal. you see, i think people should view all sins as evil, no matter, but there seems to be higher "talking about" some of them.
also, about the the ones u mentioned on parenthesis, they are NOT necessarily sins at all!

I think that if the churces tried enforce all of the rules listed in the bible, then people would rebel. They try to enforce what they think they can get away with, while trying not to alienate their followers.
