I have a window AC unit. It is way to small for the window I have. Is there any way to be able to prop it up on something in my house to be able to use it when indoors it is 85 degrees? Is it safe?

The air conditioner basically takes heat out of the room and exhausts it out the rear of the unit. If the rear of the unit isn't outside... it will heat your room rather than cool it due to heat from the exhaust, fans and compressor.

I don't know about the safety of it but It would seem to me that using it inside is self defeating. What an air conditioner does is suck in hot air. Inside the unit the air is conditioned which means that heat is extracted from it. Remember that heat is transfered not cold. So, what the air conditioning is doing is not extracting heat from the air. Well yu also have the convection factor but I'll let you google that or yahoo that on your own. The point is that The heat extracted from the air has to go somewhere. This is why the unit is put on a window. So that the heat is expelled outside.

What you need to do is have a setup to secure the unit to the window so it doesn't fall. Then use something to seal the holes. I would sk your local handyman for a solution.

You can do it -but you need to find SOME way of getting the heat exhaust out of the room. The A/C works by taking heat OUT of one place (the room) and putting it INTO another (the outside).

An ideal solution would be a fireplace. Mount the unit in there (make sure the damper is open) and cover up the gaps around the sides as much as possible to create a seal around the unit.

The heat exhaust will go up the chimney -and cold air will circulate into the room. Done!

no it has to be out a window. AC's actually produce more heat than cool its just vented outside and the cool air in so if its not in a window its going to heat the place up. You can however buy mounting kits to make it fit in most any window

it could or probibly would freeze up can you put it in your window and putwood or card board on the sides where you have gaps thats what ive done. wood is better cuz it will hold up longer and you can paint it too look good. an air conditioner needs ventilation.
