That will do fine. The AthlonTM 64 X2 Dual-Core is a good choice. The Athlon chips are faster for the same price than the Intel Duo cores.

For Dell, the small business or business in general laptops are much better "investments". I say investment since laptops have such short lifespans. But for Dell, the small business computers are more generic and have more driver updates. The benefit is if you wanted to upgrade to Vista (cough.. hack... crap OS... spit), you would have a better chance of future compatibility.

The small business computers are more compatible with software in GENERAL. For GAMES, the Inspiron is the best bet. But you said you wanted to surf the web and play with music. For such, the Vostro is perfectly fine and very cost efficient.

For multi tasking the TM, while not a very good processor, is great for web surfing and playing with music files (MP3s) The 1 GB is fine for XP, but a bit shy for Vista (2GB is optimum for Vista). The drive is a bit small by today's standards, but for a 40-60 CD collection, it should be fine.

The ATI cardis actually okay. While it is an IGP (integrated graphics processor...bad for games, but fine for photo editiing) it meets your stated needs.

I like the DVD drive since it is a good form of storing videos and music.

The wi-fi is on the edge of out dated, but until the N standard is just that, a standard and not draft, the G standard is the best bet for wireless.

Good luck.

I think that this is okay. I would like a bigger hard drive space and more memory though. The way that my fiance's dad put it was that since my fiance has an 80 gb iPod, he said that his iPod would be equal to the hard drive space. I like the WiFi Wireless card.
