My idea of a "x factor"

A competition that brings the intangibles of the game. The player that will energize a team when the team is lacking, the player that will dive out of bounce to save a loose ball. Someone who will rise up to the challenge when the game is on the line. However, this player is not your typical star or go to guy. He's simply the guy that has the killer instinct and the drive to provide what your team needs to win.

so the X factor wouldn't be a guy like Tim Duncan, who is the leader of the team. THe X factor would be his teammate, Manu Ginobili. He doesn't dominate in scoring, rebounding, etc. but when the game is on the line, he seemingly does whatever is needed to win the basketball game. whether its hitting a big shot, playing excellent defense, or making the extra pass.

To be an x factor is somewhat of a compliment like mentioned earlier. The x factor can seemingly on any given night just bring intense energy to the team. It doesn't mean you will bring it every night. but you might have that takeover quality when the team is really in need of it.

a x-factor player is someone who is not one of the stars of the team, but depending on how he does, makes the team either win or lose. for example, kobe and odom are the leading scorers on the lakers, but if luke walton has a good night and scores 15-20, thats the extra push that will make the team win.

Well, it's definitely a compliment in that case.

The term is usually used to refer to someone or something that contributes a certain often unmeasurable quality to a winning team. It's often a player who might not have overwhelming stats, but who seems to do something to help his team win.

have you ever seen the gatorade that says x-factor on it? It means that its the one thing that changes how you perform. So you were the x-factor for your team. You changed their performance.
