Then he just sits out as long as he is not signed. Not playing and not being payed. The team still has the rights. If they want, they can release or trade him, but if they do not want to do it, he just sits.

The player in question's right still belong to the team that drafted them for 1 year, after which a player can reenter the draft.

If he doesnt sign then he is released as a free agent. It wont happen to any first rounders tho, so it dont matter.
