Beckham is the highest profile player to play in the MLS since it insception when the likes of Carlos "El Pibe" Valderrama and Marko "El Diablo" Etcheverry graced american soccer pitches. He's already attracted great players like Argentine Barros-Escoletto and Mexican ace Guatemoc Blanco. What good would he do the MLS if he tried to go on a hurt ankle just to injure it furthur and be out longer? People have to realize that Becks is no spring chicken and if we want to see his magic he'll have to be fully fit. And there will be magic! Even if Beckham only puts in 3 good yrs he'll have been worth every penny. The MLS needs his image to get on the map and if they're patient they'll soon have his Talents also.

I don't think people are being especially impatient, and most of us would rather wait until he's healthy so we can see him at his best. I was obviously hoping he'd play against Toronto FC tonight, but I understand perfectly that he's better off waiting until he's at full strength.

I'm hoping that your predictions are right, and that he helps the sport in North America both by drawing fans and by making the MLS an attractive option for other foreign players. Having great players from other countries can only help raise the level of play in America, which would be great.

Because the hype has not matched the actual play. The guy came over as damaged goods. It's a freakin' sprained ankle not some MCL, ACL, concussion...sure you need your foot to be healthy to play soccer but it seems lame to most non-soccer fans.

Anyhoo, who cares? He's a lesser Pele and after his three years are up, it won't matter squat. Americans will not be turned onto a low-scoring game, if they weren't sufficiently turned on from the heyday of the NASL to keep that great league afloat. MLS is BS. I've been to a number of games live and there is no comparison. It's like watching paint dry.

I agree that Beckham's joining MLS has attracted other players to join MLS too. I agree that Beckham should be healed first before he plays and I agree that he's worth the money he's being paid.

I hope he gets well soon. I'm sure he feels the same way. I just saw an interview of him in Fox Soccer Channel and I'm going to upload it to share it with other users here.

because people expected him to all of a sudden make the mls = as good as la liga and the epl. they think one player can turn it around. which is ridiculous.
