*St. John's Wort:It's available at health food stores, drug stores, and online in the form of capsules, tablets, liquid extracts, or tea
*Omega-3 fatty acids:Cold water fish such as salmon, sardines, and anchovies are the richest food source of omega-3 fatty acids
*SAM-e:an over-the-counter supplement in health food stores, drug stores, and online
*Folic Acid:(B vitamin) green leafy vegetables, other vegetables, fruit, beans, and fortified grains
*Diet:Reduce your intake of sweets-
Sweets temporarily make you feel good as blood sugar levels soar, but may worsen mood later on when they plummet.
Avoid caffeine and alcohol-
Caffeine and alcohol both dampen mood. Alcohol temporarily relaxes us and caffeine boosts energy, but the effects of both are short-lived. Both can worsen mood swings, anxiety, depression, and insomnia.
Vitamin B6-
Vitamin B6 is needed to produce the mood-enhancing neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine. Although deficiency of vitamin B6 is rare, a borderline deficiency may occur in people taking oral contraceptives, hormone replacement therapy, and drugs for tuberculosis.
Magnesium-
Most people do not get enough magnesium in their diets. Good sources of magnesium are legumes, nuts, whole grains and green vegetables. Like vitamin B6, magnesium is needed for serotonin production. Stress depletes magnesium.
*Get lots of Exercise
*Light Therapy:Getting enough sunlight has been shown to be effective for seasonal mood changes that happen in the darker winter months.
Exposure to light in the morning helps the body's sleep/wake cycle work properly

Daily exercise and a balanced diet can be effective. Exercise has an immediate "feel good" effect, and also relsults in long-term happiness. The same goes for a balanced diet. Check out the book Superfoods Rx.

St. Johns Wort, 5-HTP and SAMe are popular herbal antidepressants. I have not taken any of them, but many people report results. I know at least one person personally who has taken SAMe and saw results.

I always recommend talking to a health care provider, even if you are only taking herbal and natural supplements, as they can have adverse side effects and can interact with other drugs and herbs. You may consider looking for a naturopathic physician.

I currently take a small dose of Zoloft which i feel helps boost my mood. I also try to be around the people i care for the most as much as possible. If you feel depressed i would recommend seeing a doctor and seeing if a small dose of anti depressants and just changing certain aspects of your life like how often you are with loved ones and try keeping yourself busy with hobbies and other things. Dont know if that helps but good luck

Try getting some daily exercise and yoga is really good also. Find a Hobie and get out of the house be around people that make you feel good about your self. These things may sound very simple and they are but you'll be amazed how good you'll feel when you start doing these things to take care of your self :)

St. Johns Worth, and you may need to do a detox first to clear some old chemicals, there are several programs, but try one that has Great Plains Bentonite in a liquid, and liquid chlorophyll with apple Juice.

There is nothing wrong with taking meds that actually work!! Zoloft and Lexapro work very well with minimal side effects,

A lot of herbal remedies can have way worse side effects then the prescription drugs do....St Johns wart for example can make you VERY photosensitive. See a Dr.
