I'm wanting to install remote start on my 1999 ford ranger 4x4, and I was wanting to know how hard it is going to be and if the anti-theft thing will keep it from working.

It's automatic and my grandpa would be the one doing it. He can do just about anything.

You are going to need to run a transponder bypass module, you will also need a spare key. The spare key sits inside the transponedr unit which is a simple 3 wire hook up.

The hardest part is running the antennaa for the transponder, What you have to do is insertan awl in the button undre your keyswitch while turning your key to the run position and a slight tug towards the passenger door should easily remove.

Next you have to remove the covers that encase the key switch housing so you can wrap the antenna around your key switch assembly. (Note) You want to wrap antenna as close to the external edge of antenna as possible. I found that it's best to secure in place with a zip tie.

Another thing you have to watch is on some remote starters, You may need to utilize a bosch 3- amp relay in oredr for your heater to work properly. All depends on what type of unit you plan on installing. Reason I say that is because Fords have high output heaters.

Any problems e-mail me directly, I have installed quite a few over the years, when I worked at Ziebart.

depending on the brand you buy ,you might have to buy a bypass module for the anti theft device.

if its a standard it wont work but if its an automatic everything will work normally. its not something you should even attempt to do to be honest unless you have a good automotive backround
