Core2 duos are really a lot more powerful for the money, and 8600 and 2600s are really pretty bad, a 7900 or 1900 will not do dx 10 but will do better in dx9 games so either get a better card or one of the older ones.

Compare the prices for your components vs. the prices on www.newegg.com. That will give you an idea of whether the price is fair.

Do you plan on going SLI in the future? If not, why an SLI mobo.
$185 seems high for 2 gb, is it performance (low latency) memory? Yet again compare the price with Newegg.

It sounds great. The only changes I would make are a faster dvd burner and a different brand of motherboard. I have had nothing but trouble with asus boards in the past.

drop the asus motherboard for something cheaper. the am2 6000 is not budgetm that is top of the line. drop down some and the system will be budget. 2 gigs of ram is overkill. what are u doing where u need 2 gigs?

Get a Zalman CNPS9700 CPU cooler. The stock cooler won't be enough. The price should be around $70. Check it out at Xoxide.com.

I would spend more on a video card. At least a 8600GTS. It is an otherwise decent rig.
