My CPU had a 1.2GHz processor, and 512RAM and I have a Cable Modem internet connection, and I have a very good anti-virus/anti-spyware program.

I do rutine clean-ups of my hard-drive, and overall my performance is pretty good whether I am opening folders or surfing the web.

Here is the problem - Up until a couple of weeks ago, I have been able to watch Youtube videos with no problem at all. I could click on the video and it would play uninterrupted.

Recently this changed dramatically.

Now when I click on a video, it takes a while to load, then it will play about 3 seconds then buffer for about 5 seconds, then play another 3 seconds, then buffer for 5 seconds, and it will do this all the way to the end.

Some things to note:
#1 This is not limited to Youtube - All videos from all sites behave this way.
#2 The performance of the rest of my computer, including web surfing is still pretty good.
#3 I just installed and additional 512RAM for a total of 1G and it didnt help.

As far as Troubleshooting goes,

- When I download a video, it downloads fast and plays fast. Streaming video is the only problem I have.

Start by updating your flash plugin from adobe, (it sounds a bit like a corrupted file that needs a re-install). Then re-install your video drivers. Have you changed any colour settings (video drivers) played with virtual memory settings? (reset 'em) or similar? updated your browser? try those. re-installing stuff usually resets them to the default if you have inadverdently changed stuff.

There is no simple answer here. You will need to troubleshoot this. Here is where I would start to narrow down the problem:

1. Is the problem only when you are downloading the video or is it in playback? Test this by trying to download a video file and watch it locally from the hard drive. If this works, then the problem is likely in the Internet connection. If the problem still exists then the problem is in the playback, player or codec.

2. Is the problem player specific. Try watching the video's with a different player. If you use Microsoft media player try using realplayer or another player. If you use realplayer, try media player. If the problem is player specific, then contact the support line for that player. (or just use a player that works)

3. Is the problem with a specific type of file? Is it just WMV or MOV or MPG? if so, try running videos of another type. If the problem is type secific then you may have a codec problem.

This question will require some t-shooting, but once you narrow down the problem you should be able to find a solution.

Sounds like you have picked up a virus slowing you down and eating up your bandwidth.
Might have to reformat your hard drive not leaving any partitions which is the only sure fire way to get rid of a virus.

If you received any e greeting cards and you clicked on them your computer most likely has picked up the virus. And bad thing about it none of the anti virus protection will detect it.
Only way youi can detect it is to monitor your computer over a period of time watching what is being sent out from it. Usually that has to be done by the an administrator on the system.
But sometimes you can catch it by continually monitoring your temp files.

Check if you have a fan on your video card, and if it is spinning when the machine is turned on. The fans on those video cards have been known to stop working over time, and then when you stress the card by viewing a movie or playing a game the graphics chip gets too hot and starts acting up.

Just something to check, and if it isn't working you can get another fan - or better yet, a whole new video card (easier and better performance)...

I think your computer is not the problem. The servers of the programs are. And just to think about it. The youtube in the Philippines is like that as well as all the videos. All you need to do is pause your video and wait it out, you play it and it will go on smoothly.

It might be something with your internet service provider. Are you accessing these material at peek time? If so, you might not be getting as much bandwidth as usual. Or the ISP is going through some changes which might be lowering your internet performance.
