Of course we shouldn't kill sharks! That's preposterous. Shark attacks are incredibly rare, and I've found most attacks to be from stupidity. I live only eight miles from the ocean and the attacks on people here consistently have been on tourists. If tourists had asked the locals about the area they would have been told not to go into particular areas due to water conditions and seal populations. But of course, tourists never ask and they pay the consequences. I know that may seem calloused, but really, some people have no common-sense. Nature and we locals should not have to suffer because of some idiot.

This is the oldest problem in the world. Man moved in and killed the wolves because they were dangerous know we have to kill the deer because there are no wolves. What people don't understand is that 90 percent of sharks are scavengers which means they eat dead or dying fish. So if sharks were extinct you wouldn't go in the ocean because of all the dead fish and bacteria. Second this is a real problem because of the practice of fining were they cut the fins off and throw the shark back in the water to save room on the boat. The real problem is sharks don't mate and have baby sharks in the numbers we are killing them. I am a diver and in the past 10 years You can noticeably see the decline of sharks. You just don't see the numbers or species that you did 10 years ago. Its a shame.

As a SCUBA diver and frequent acquaintance of sharks I don't advocate killing them for any reason except to stop an attack. People who are attacked by sharks are often times practicing high risk activities like swimming near fishermen using live bait or carrying speared fish or thrashing around in the water. I've swum(swam?) in close proximity to several species of sharks and have never felt threatened.
I also believe the practice of "finning", should be outlawed, the capture of sharks just to cut off the pectoral and dorsal fins for soup is barbaric.
Sharks reproductive numbers are limited, they do not produce many young, and species could reach the "tipping point" very quickly and be lost to the World forever.

NO. Sharks are the major predator in the water, take them out to the equation what they NATURALLY eat in the oceans increases. For instance a certain shark eats jellyfish keeping their numbers in check but get rid of the shark and the jellyfish number increases and those allergic to the toxic sting or even stung by the most toxic jellyfish are in greater danger. An even better reason is the fact that when they began culling sharks in Hawaii after they had several attacks in one year, the number of sharks decreased but the attacks didn't stop. Sharks should remain the number one predator in the water, we humans already have the number one predator of the World marked on our foreheads.

No! I think instead of killing/ hurting them we should build a net around the beaches in the water and give us a mile and a half out of shark free beach. But if you want to go snorkeling we'll just go out on a boat far.
