One would think that it would be to tell the truth. However, it is more likely to be tweaked to make sure each excels in the Nielsen ratings and sells as many advertisement as possible. Sadly, money is going to trump the truth any day of the week.

their responsibility is to tell the truth...but we live in such a power/wealth driven world that they will obviously do what they can to get attention from the audiences, therefore boosting their ratings and making more money. I personally think it has gone too out of hand ...and it's getting very repetitive...especially with the tabloids on celebrities...who wants to hear another story about lindsay lohan and her drug addiction or britney spears and her uncontrolable behaviour...so what if these PEOPLE are doing this stuff.....there are so many other ppl probably in ur local area that are doing the same thing...the only difference is that they don't show up on a box in ur living room everynight....but being celebrities...you have to understand that you are rolemodels to many children....i understand that it has much to do on the "stars" behaviour...but the media is as much of fault for publishing these stories and exposing their young fans to many things that kids don't need to know about...i think they should really smarten up but its understandable why they would do that....i mean they are competeing for the "best story"...its just getting ridiculous

the media is simply a messenger. Not a magician not a writer of fiction and not a soap box. When my mother sits down to watch the news, she assumes she is getting the unbiased truth. The assumption is there because that is the expectation since the first writers of history marked red ore on cave walls and hieroglyphs on tomb walls. Those who wrote there history down thousands of years before us did it to preserve the integrity of events of the day. To preserve history as it is been sacred truth long before fortune 500 companies monopolized Media outlets. If we speek the truth to the masses, we can only then live in honest democracy.

News media are owned by commercial companies and their sole duty is to maximise profits for their shareholders. If this involves telling the truth sometimes then they will do it.
