My friend has a 96' Integra LS. He's put stuff in the engine, and i think it's pushing at most 240 hp. I'm about to buy a '98 Trans Am, that's only mods are a cutout exhaust, and a WS6 hood. Anyways, my friend always talks about how fast his car is, and how he'd beat anyone, and I wish he'd shut up. Would my car, assuming we have the same driving skills, beat his? Also, is it true that GM seriously underrated the power of the Trans Am LS1?

yes and no in the start yes because you would have a lot more take off power than him but in the long run may be if and only if you are willing to push you vehicle to the edge by redlining the engine and you go a good distance you will beat him for sure when you pull a steep hill and yes they did under rate this engine to a point if you real want race this car i would get rid of all the stupid pollution control bit and get a chip for the computer

Yes you can beat him. Its very true that GM underrated both the LT1's and LS1's. From my understanding, they underrated the LS1's even more!!!

As the owner of a mostly stock 95 Trans Am, I find it hard to believe a 96 integra with 240 HP could beat a 98 Trans Am or even my 95 for that matter. A stock 98 Trans Am was officially measured as have a 0-60 in 5.1 seconds!!!

You really should have no problem beating him. There is only 1 thing though. The Trans Am has so much torque, you need to have good tires that will grip and give you good take off. My 95 has so much damn torque....Even with tires that cost $250 a piece, I spin them so much when I try to race. If your tires grip good, and you have a 6 speed manual transmission, I would put money on you in that race. If you have an automatic, you should still be able to win but it could be closer if he has a manual.

Well, there is one way to find out. Take them out to a local drag strip and line them up. Then you know for sure. If he beats you, then start upgrading until you beat him.

Don't race on the street. You will get into more trouble than you can get out of.
