1. English-speaking people, and foreigners can get by even in remote areas where young kids could still converse (if the shyness will go away) in broken, ungrammatical English.
2. Warm, hospitable people with a ready smile for everyone
3. Some of the world's best beaches at unbelievably inexpensive rates
4. A culture mecca. Lots of old, historic churches dotting the entire archipelago. Most of these were built during the Spanish occupation. Together with the old churches are the walled communities like Intramuros and its version in Cebu and some other places.
5. That there are 7,107 islands, each one with a character and culture of its own (maybe even its unique dialect) - - -making the Philippines seem like a great adventure destination. You would feel like you could discover your own island in this part of the world. You can actually own it - - - some islands in exotic Palawan, as well as around surfing capital Siargao can be acquired as private property.
6. I can't resist a 6th - - - that the Philippines is a democracy. That is why politics is sooooo colorful (that is the positive way of looking at it) it makes you wonder how jesters can actually be elected to positions earning them the title "Honorable". Warts and all, the Philippines is still a beautiful place.

Culture, Food, History, People, beautiful women, interesting customs, etc. yes, there is poverty, but there is poverty here too, and our government is wasting money killing Americans in Iraq rather than taking care of problems here. But, if you are planning a trip to the Phillipines you won't be disappointed.
