No I don't beleive the world will end in 2012. I don't beleive any of those predictions. The Mayans may have known some astronomy but they didn't know how to even save themselves.

No... the world isn't going to just end.
In fact...
What the whole idea is about behind 2012 is that we are entering a new age. This new age is called the age of Aquarius or the age of information is another way to call it. We are leaving the age of Pisces (Jesus symbol anyone?) and entering into Aquarius. We are entering into a new cycle astrologically and evolving into a higher state of consciousness spiritually. On this day, Dec. 21, 2012 at 11:11 a.m., all of our planets including the Sun and the Milky Way will be in total alignment with each other. This only happens every 26,000 years!
Also...
Since the big bang, consciousness has been evolving more and more rapidly. From 2000 to 2012, we are in-between worlds as some people like to call it. In other words, we are in the initiation process for the dawning of a higher consciousness.
Think of it like a pyramid. There are 9 blocks or conscious levels as you approach the top. At the bottom left of the pyramid you have the big bang. As we progressed (evolved), evolution through consciousness kept speeding up. We developed new ways of understanding things in our journey through survival so that we can get to where we are about to go.
Well...
We are 1 block away from the top of that pyramid. Ever notice how things just keep getting faster and faster? Almost too hard for you to even keep up? More and more people are now beginning to experience telepathy. Hmmm... well, how much further can we possibly go with communication? We already have cell phones and computers. People are going to want to communicate faster. All signs (so far) point to telepathy. Also, why do you think more and more people all over the world are looking for new ways of understanding themselves? Spirituality is flooding over this world like a Tsunami and things are just getting started!
The Mayan calendar ends in 2012 because what we've all been waiting for in human existence has been us all along.

1.Definitely NOT!!
2.The backup would be that , there were predictions by Nostradamus also that the world would come to an end before year 2000. But we are still alive!!
And some people also predicted many things that dint happen. To believe the only source i trust is the Indian calendar which has already putforth the dates of Civilizations the 'Yuga's' and the Cosmic Cycle.
Hence we still have roughly 3000 years to go ...so chill
3. People like to believe few things depending upon what fascinates them. But , one must research for truth.

Anything is possible. I won't stop planning my life after 2012, but you never know. If you look at the recent activity of the sun, you will see that it has been acting a little wild lately (within the last 10,000 yrs, kind of lately.) Could be that they just knew their stuff (which I am sure no one here will deny if they know anything about the Mayans) and with the study of the Sun, know what's up. The "craziness" of the Sun would totally mess up our current magnetic fields and that disruption in any direction could take out the entire planet. Now, I think our scientists would have noticed it, but you never know. And those are my thoughts.

no. i've heard explanations saying that the calendars begin with a new star cycle (and a new civilization), so i take that as some change will happen that will cause a new civilization to arise (for better or worse). although i'm still not sure if I believe this. i'll prepare for what I assume will be a panic of some people (like y2k, but maybe worse), and see what happens from there. and about what theory did they predict, we don't know. most records were destroyed so we know very little about their culture and beliefs, including what happens at the end of the calendar.

1. No.
2. The Mayan Calendar ends on this date, but many people have made predictions about the end of the world and were wrong. There is no logical reason that they would have known.
3. I'll do some digging.
You shoud definantly read the article in wikipedia about Novelty Theory and also read please read the article about Terence MeKenna.

No I don't belive it, becuase the ayans where not very good at predicting anything, since they didn't even predict there own demiss. just because some old calander, that was made with numbers under three (big IQ there), stops at 2012, just means they stopped there calander then, why do people always try to put such deep meaning in all this ancient stuff? desperate for answwers I guess.

No, I don't believe it because they didn't precisely predict the last day, their calendar just stops on that date. Nobody knows why it stopped. Maybe they just got tired of making a calendar that goes one thousand years into the future.

"If Humanity Wishes To Save Itself From Biospheric Destruction It Must Return To Living in Natural Time," he foretold of our accelerated technological society, and the resulting damage of our collective divergence from Natural Law in exchange for materialist values.
