Johnson started the "war on poverty" I believe. No you can not give people government handouts and make them wealthy. If that were true there would be no poor American Indians. On the contrary, most are *IN* poverty.
Truth is we keep people poor with regulations. We up the minimum wage so unskilled workers cant get jobs, then we have all these requirements so they cant start their own business and work for themselves.. You need a fricken licence in America TO CUT HAIR. WHY??
Chavez is a dictator my friend. He shuts down those that speak against him. He has total control of your government. You will find out what happens when the government controls business. Look at the Soviet Union. If I were you, I would flee all that government "help", and trade it for a little liberty.

Chavez latest edict is that when a child reaches three years of age they will be taken from the family and sent to "special schools" (indoctrination). The family may only have contact twice a month.

I don't think President Bush is against the poor! I do think he does not understand how the poor lives. We Americans ,most of us want the whole world to have plenty to eat and roof over heads. The pursuit of happiness!

The war on poverty has been fought for over 40 years and virtually no progress has been made. All we have done is squander trillions of dollars on a system that does not work nor does it solve the problem.
