Ben Hur is based on a novel by General Lew Wallace. It is set in the time of Jesus and the main character is Judah Ben Hur, played in the best known movie version by Charlton Heston. Using the movie, Judah was a prince of Israel, wrongly accused of trying to assassinate the Roman Governor of Judea. The name was actually arrived by combining two last Jewish names into one name. The movie itself won 11 Academy Awards and, for its time, contained several ground breaking special effects. The movie is relatively faithful to the book however several characters were dropped. It relates the life of Ben Hur from his sentencing to the galleys, his rescue of the Roman general in charge of the fleet, his eventual adoption by him and his return to Judea to find out what happened to his mother and sister. Twice during the movie he meets Jesus, once before Jesus started his ministry and again at the time of his crucifixion. Although consumed with hatred for some of the Romans, he eventually finds peace and forgives them. Through this, and the sacrifice that Jesus makes, his mother and sister are cured of Leprosy, a disease that in modern times, has been mostly eradicated. He marries, in the book, and goes on to build many of the catacombs in Rome using the money left to him by the Roman who adopted him as well as his own personal fortune.

It's spelled "Ben Hur" and as a movie starred Charlton Heston in the late 50's I believe.
It's in your local library and is a very fine read.

IIRC, I watched a movie in my childhood with a name "Judo Ben Hur" In which Ben Hur was a hero of some region and he won the battle-type race of horse cart.

Loyd C.Douglas wrote it over seventy years ago&it's been filmed twice once in the twenties during the silent era,it starred Ramon Navarro. The later, more well-known version starred Charlton Heston&the best thing about it is the visually stunning chariot race about mid-way into the picture.Since you can't watch it on a theater-sized screen at least try to watch it in wide-screen format. The race alone is worht the whole movie, trust me.

The movie starred Charlton Heston as a hebrew chariot racer that lost everthing and got it back through a freak encounter with the impaled Messiah. The blood of Jesus falling to the ground healed his mother and sister of Leprosy, the equivilent of AIDS today.

I haven't heard of Ben Her. I don't think it was very popular. However, there are probably some experts on Ben Hur, if that would help.
