Whatever it is, I'm sure Michael Moore will make a movie blaming Bush for it soon enough.

The government (the military) keeps you in the dark about lots of new initiatives, and not just those being tested at Area 51.

Because not everythig that the government does is not the public's business. If you knew what was going on at Area 51, would it really have an impact on your life.

More to the point, our enemies don't need to know what type of advanced military technology is being developed or how. If you want to believe the UFO thing go ahead, but all that goes on thier is research and development of experimental aircraft.

Area 51 is well too popularized by the sci fi guys.

It is likely nothing...and the government doesn't mind people thinking it's nothing. Just put up some fence, and a few security guards and signs...to keep the weirdos satisfied.

However, you better believe there is a black-ops secrecy area somewhere, that functions just as Area 51 would, but isn't known in all the folk-lore.

I think its a necessary evil. Most of our cutting edge weapons need to be developed in secrecy in the name of national security. Many of our high tech weapons in history have been developed in the "black" like the atomic bomb, the U-2, SR-71, F-117, and B-2.

Personally I think the government needs to admit we do tests there on advanced weapons. Everyone already knows that and there is no point in hiding. I am sure there is another Area 51 out there where we are testing in secret again.

I do not worry about Area 51 because I know they are working on the next generation of super weapons to smash our enemies.

Thats where the military works on a lot of Top Secret or officially nonexistant projects. That's where the stealth fighter and bomber were developed and that is probably where the rumored Aurora jet is being developed.

The government only admitted its existence once Russia published the satellite photos of the place.

Because whatever they're hiding in Area 51 may be potentially dangerous enough that if we knew, they think it would cause a mass hysteria and affirm to the populace that there's a reason not to trust them. They think of us as cattle... dull, mindless cattle. We're just puppets on strings to them.

If I knew what was happening there I could tell you why the government wants to keep it a secret.

Not only Area 51, but a lot of other covert operations.
In a free society, unfortunately, anything we know, our enemy knows.

Something to contemplate. They have increased the size of the border there and the "No Tresspassing" signs warn that the use of deadly force is allowed.
