The anime is supposedly going to end at 26, but reading the manga, i dont see how that could happen. They'd have to slaughter the story and end everything in the last episode or 2. This would be a great series to keep going. I'd wanna see it with atleast 50 eps. What do you guys think?

If it they are gonna make a 52 episode series, they have to fill it with filler episodes series. The aim of the the producers is to animate the first phase of the series before the time jump. The current arc in the anime is the Northern Campaign where many unexpected things happen.
After that, there is a time jump of X number of years. The manga is in that current arc and still developing and had to stop because Monthly Shonen Jump was cancelled. After they get enough material, I will say that the anime will continue where it left off.
