IP is innings pitched. Pretty self explanatory, the number of innings a pitcher pitches in a game/season/career. When it is 1/3, he only got 1 out in the inning.
WHIP is Walks + Hits per Inning pitched.

IP means the number of innings a pitcher pitched, the stats also include third of innings if the pitcher gets pulled in the middle of the inning. Whip means the average number of walks to hits per inning. If a pitcher has a .26 whip, it means he has .26 walks for every 1 hit. I pitch for highschool varsity baseball so I know what Im talking about

IP=
Innings Pitched.
When a baseball pitcher gets three outs, it counts as 1.0 innings pitched. Since there are three outs in an inning, each out counts as 1/3 innings pitched. Thats why you might see (for example) 7 and 1/3 innings pitched. This means he completed 7 innings and got one out in the 8th inning.
WHIP is walks + hits per inning pitched.
Add the walks and hits and divide by the total number of innings pitched to get WHIP.

IP is short for innings pitched. WHIP is short for walks + hits per innings pitched. if a pitcher were to give up 5 hits and 4 walks in 9 innings pitched his WHIP would be 1.00. if it were 6 hits and 5 walks in 7 innings, his WHIP would be 1.57.

It means innings pitched....so if the Pitcher has a 4.0 IP for the season it means he averages 4 innings per game before he is taken out.

IP means innings pitched. It means how many innings the pitcher pitched.
WHIP is Walks/Hits per innings pitch...Neither mean much of anything...ERA and W/L record is all that counts.
