1/2 divided by 4/5 equals flipped 1/2 x 5/4 = 5/8.

For the other problem 1/2 divided by 3 1/4 you have to change 3 and 1/4 into a single fraction so multiply the whole number 3 by the denominator 4 to get 12 and then add the numerator 1 to 12 to get 13 for example:

3 1/4 = ((3 x 4) + 1)/4 and ((12) + 1)/4 equals 13/4
to get your original answer 3 1/4 just divide 13/4 so..

1/2 divided by 13/4 equals flipped 1/2 x 4/13 = 4/26 and 4/26 has to be in the most simplest form so your final answer is 2/13 because both 4 the numerator and 26 the denominator can be divided by 2.

For future reference if you need to add fractions or subtract fractions, find the common denominator which is the bottom number. For example:

1/2 and 4/5 have the number 10 as a common denominator because 2x5=10 and 5x2=10 so...

1/2 x 5/5 = 5/10 and 4/5 x 2/2 = 8/10 so 5/10 + 8/10 = 13/10

1/2 x 5/5 = 5/10 and 4/5 x 2/2 = 8/10 so 5/10 - 8/10 = - 3/10

It is also known as multiplying by it's reciprical i know a few have mentioned it but yes it can also be used to solve any other division problem you might get same rules apply. The only problem is if it's a mixed number aka 3 1/4 it must be simplified into a simple fraction which is 13/4 if it is a whole number say 4 divided 5 it can be rewritten as 4 x 1/5 (because 5=5/1)

To divide by a fraction, multiply by its reciprocal. To find the reciprocal of a fraction, just switch the numerator and denominator. So 1/2 divided by 4/5 is equal to 1/2 times 5/4.

When you are dividing fractions you are not realling dividing, You are multiplying. You have remember Keep, Change Flip.

1/2 divded by 4/5

means (1/2)/(4/5)

1...........4
---.. /...------
2...........5

KEEP the first term the same (ie: the 1/2)

CHANGE the sign, from division to multiplication

and FLIP the fraction over, (ie> 4/5 will become 5/4)

1...........5
---.. x...------
2...........4

Now you can multiply acorss.

(5 *1) / (4*2)

5/8 is the answer.

Turn the second fraction upside down:
1/2 ÷ 4/5 = 1/2 × 5/4.

There is a simple manner (usually taught in schools)!

You have to divide 1/2 by 4/5

When you make it a multiplication It is 1/2* 5/4. See the first fraction (1/2) is "kept as it is" and the second fraction (4/5) is changed as 5/4 (just interchange the numbers of both numerator and the denominator).

Children must learn this!

Please teach your own child by preparing yourself and never confuse your child! I appreciate your question.

Regards!

(1/2) / (4/5)
= (1/2) * (5/4)
= 5 / 8

You flip the fraction in the denominator and then multiply it by the fraction in the numerator.

Another example...

(1/4) / (2/3)
= (1/4) * (3/2) - note that I flipped the fraction in the denominator and then multiplied it by the fraction in the numeraotr.
= 3/8

One final example...

(2/5) / (3/4)
= (2/5) * (4/3)
= 8/15

Hope that helps.
