Regardless of who gets into office -- if they try to clean up the mess we're in, it will take 5~10 years.... two terms at least.

That's assuming they don't just decide they like being above the law, and use all the same tricks Bush did to make themselves functionally immune from prosecution.

It will take decades to clean up the mess left by Bush. There is the mess to the environment, the economy, our relationship with other countries of the world, the constitutional mess and destruction of our civil liberties. The damage is extensive if it is reversible at all. Did you know that Bush has borrowed more money than all of the other 42 presidents who preceeded him combined? The debt is enormous for this awful war, which is waged just to protect the rich. I hoped we would not be stupid enough as to elect him for a second term, then we might have stopped the damage in time to fix it, now I'm not sure.

If they win, about as long as it would take Bush to clean up the mess he inherited.....never! Let's face it, the US has had it's share of problems including the deficit (no matter how well it was hid), international relations, military preparedness, etc. before the republicans took office. It's not just a dem/rep problem. It's easy to blame one person but the reality is that we need to point the finger at ourselves first....what was the voting turn-out rate for the last Presidential election, any election for that matter? I don't have the answer but I think it's simplistic to point the finger at one man.

Its Impossible since there is virtually no mess. I really hope there ISN'T a democrat president in 2008 or for a long time. The democrats are not only currently the worse choice, they are historically. they killed the Indians and held the slaves- some of america's darkest hours. how would they help?

The first President Clinton managed to balance the budget in less than 8 years, and I think the next President Clinton will manage the same. I think she will do wonders for the economy and do a great deal to restore America's reputation around the world. I think she will make America a leader in protecting the environment instead of the primary obstacle, and do a great deal to encourage alternative energy. I think we'll see a great reduction in partisan strife and some serious campaign finance reform.

Still, the damage has been great. It may take more than one presidency to repair it all.

Depends on the official and what kind of support can be gotten from other the other branches of government. Honestly every president leaves a mess of some kind because they all have an agenda. Most politicians aren't there to make our lives better, just to get what they want.

Hopefully, just having the Bushies gone will be a giant leap forward. It will definitely take a number of years to fix what he has screwed up though. Whomever takes over has their work cut out for them.

the ONLY thing the Democrats can fix is elections!

if we get another Democratic president, look for rampant inflation,$6+ gas prices, increased taxes, more people on welfare, more rich getting richer (especially trial lawyers, entertainment companies & CEOs), more hard work for less pay for the common person, more racial intolerance & favoritism, increase in terrorism domestically & worldwide, more pork barrel projects from Congress, more restrictions on our civil rights under the guise of protections, and even worse leadership than we have had in the current presidency.

If they don't show they can stand up to Bush, the dems will be toast in 2008. Pelosi better get moving or this boat is going to sink.
