I think making the Hall is the highest honor in sports. They are both illusive, but you have more control over your individual glory than team glory. What if you were the 3rd string bat catcher on those teams. What did you really contribute? Making it to the Hall is a great achievement to me.

being on a team that wins 5 major league WS's. If i was a player, id be more than happy if i made it to the hall of fame, but winning a world series would be way more important to me. Not many players can say that they won 5 world series' either. That is a pretty good career if you do that. Plus, if you won 5 world series as a starter, you must be good and your on the right path to make it to the hall of fame anyways.

It probably depends on his role on the team. If I'm a major contributor to five champions, I would guess that would be pretty terrific. If I were an eighth-place hitter on those teams and then went on to a great career (an unlikely combination), then the Hall would be a capper.

Of course, anyone who is a big contributor to five World Series champions probably is going into the Hall. Jeter and Rivera obviously have a chance to do that at some point.

It depends on who the player is. I will say one obejctive thing. The player who wins the five wins ends up beloved by the team he wins the titles with, but will be forgotten as a player at the end of his career(Billy Martin is a good example his managing career notwithstanding). The Hall of Famer is immortal and is remebered as a great by fans everywhere. Tony Gwynn never won a world series, and yet fans all over the country remember him, whereas Paul O'Neill won four world series and will only be remembered in New York and Cincinnati.

hall of fame is an individual thing and for the individual, much more prestigious. You can be a bench warmer and be on a team that wins the title, but you accomplished nothing.

I would say winning 5 WS. How many people can make that claim? Also, a player will cherish the wins more than he will the induction ceremony.

Being a hall of famer, I think you don't need a World Series for that.
