A uva/uvb bulb is the only way lizards can produce vitamin D3, which they will die without. They absorb it from natural sunlight, or from a uvb bulb.

UVB bulbs to not produce heat. So you will need to find a combination light or have two lights. Your heat light can be any kind of bulb, it doesn't matter. What is important is the uvb bulb.

I used this light with my iguana

It did both heat and uvb in one bulb.

You probably could without your lizard dieing but I highly don't suggest it. Some people even say that you should have both the light and the heating pad which really could be unnecessary. You should have the uvb because it does support the lizard with vitamins and heat supply that a regular light does not provide. If your worrying about to much brightness at night you should uvb lights the are kinda like in-fa red. Simply because the lizard cant see the blinding light its really not and so you can only a little bit. If you do only use the light then your lizard could become lethargic and sick. It can last a couple days without the light but try to get it as soon as possible. Hope this helps. Good luck. :)

No. Without UVB certain reptiles cannot metabolize calcium, and they will develop metabolic bone disease. A regular lightbulb in a dome reflector is fine, but make sure the temperature is correct for the particular lizard. Different species need different temps. Use a digital indoor/outdoor themometer with a probe end. Stick on and dial thermometers are inaccurate up to 20F. Most lizard don't need a heating pad or nightime heat. What kind of lizard do you have? A good source of info is this website--check out the reptile forums link.

A UVB bulb is actually like an artificial sun for reptiles. The UVB provides vitamins and proteins that the reptiles need to survive, that they usually get from sunlight.

uvb = your lizard dosent die for no reason (fake sun spectrum)
heat= your lizard can eat and digest and move (they are cold blooded) duh

underpad heater at night= burnt bellys, cooked lizards very bad

lizards do not sens heat from below, they only sense it from their backs (the sun) so you can kill em with those too.
