Yes, I'd say Republicans are in denial. Most of the country is pretty stratified. Just as there are communities where it's hard to find a Bush supporter, there are communities where most people go to church, wave the flag and vote Republican. The last 20 years have convinced them that everyone agrees with them, and certainly their neighbors still do, so it's truly hard to grasp how fed up the rest of the country is. To faithful Republicans, the failures of the Bush administration are not really relevant. Lots of them are pretty disgusted with him too. But it never occurs to them that the party of "godless treehugging babykillers" offers an alternative. It's just a question of which Republican might be a better choice.

No, your assuming that Republicans are all lock step. Look at all the Ron Paul supporters, they are Republican but disagree with Bush.. there are quite a few of them now.
Edit: I thought I would add. Democrats AND Republicans are only 48% of the American public. The rest of America is non-political, they don't vote, they generally get involved.. however.. if they did.. there would be nothing either party could do.

Yes it is denial. They told us they were going to keep the senate and possibly the house in 2006 remember?
As for the answer directly above mine - is ignorance something you actually take pride in? Like the left wing media myth. The same left wing media that called for Clinton's impeachment and endorsed Bush in 2000?
As for "Lies, dam lies and statistics" This was British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli long before Truman was even born. http://www.quotationspage.com/quotes/Benjamin_Disraeli/
You are welcome to ignore the polls if you like. That is what you did in 2006 and why the summary pants kicking you got then came as such a surprise.

The Republicans don't deserve to have a lead, because they haven't winnowed down the pack, and they still don't really distinguish themselves from democrats. I voted republican for 22 years...and last election, I was part of the crowd that punished them for being "democrat lite"...spending like drunken sailors, and growing the size of government. When the Republicans get back to their roots, people like me will return. Until then, I'll be with the libertarians.

Exit polls used to matter in every other presidential election--until Bush supposedly won this one and contradicted the exit polls. And cons like to use polls supposedly showing that Americans disapprove of the job that the "Democratic Congress" is doing--no hypocrisy there!

I am a conservative. Polls don't mean anything to me. The left wing liberal media uses polls to create news, then they report on it like it is news. From President Harry Truman, I learned the phrase: "There are lies, damn lies, and statistics." Polls are statistics.
Polls do not run the country. Both Gore and Kerry believed their polls and both thought they won the presidential election. Surprise!

Not in denial. They've just been so good at demonizing liberals (especially among the redneck constiuency) that they can't comprehend that the people of American are starting to see through the b.s.

They're not in denial. They disagree with your analysis.
Both the Democratic party polls and the Republican party polls are polls among their internal membership.
But yes, there are hypocritical people in every group who make irrational statements that are not logically consistent with their behavior. But it's not unique to any one party or side.

Why on earth would anybody want to put their faith in polls. You would do better to take everything you own and put it out in the open and walk away. To return the following day hoping all your belongings had not been taken.
