No, it's because of past experience. Trolls will go through your Q&A and report every question and answer as a violation. Since Yahoo is clueless as to the veracity of the reported violation unless you protest it, the Yahoo computers will automatically deduct 12 points for each violation. If the violations reach a certain number, which they will if somebody is flagging all your questions and answers one by one, your account is suspended. I didn't think such spiteful people would take part in this site which is supposed to be for intelligent discourse. What was I thinking?

Ms Morgana,
In my case, when I first 'signed up' I didn't realize that keeping myself 'closed' to others would prevent me from getting EMails from other participants. At the end of the first day I realized that what I had done was an oversight. However, at exactly the same time I received some 'flamethrower', nasty responses to a very simple and non-controversial question. It was at that instant that I knew that I had done the correct thing - even though it wasn't on purpose. The flaming that I got from some people was astounding and I'm glad that I don't see an extra 'ration' of that when I ask questions now.

I have it set to private...and my reason is because a lot of my questions got reported or deleted before it were even posted on P&S. Somone kept on reporting me for no reason at all, and it's very annoying....so I thought to set to it private.

Some of the people who go around and talk smack to others on here I think do it so they don't get thumbs down on their put downs. You would really have to look for them.
At least some of my trolls do that.

I have mine on private cause some of my questions are personal. And if my friends or anyone I knew realized that it was me, I would rather them not see my questions. And they would probably make fun of my answers. I also just don't want the whole of Y!A being able to know all the problems in my life.

Because they do not want people seeing what they answered either because they are being stalked on Q & A or because someone else they know uses answers as well.

3. Reporters
4. They have some friend/family member also on Answers and they're embarrassed of the questions they have asked or the questions they have answered.

Some of us get deleted a lot and we're trying to slow down the process.
