If it weren't for the Muslims, all of the ancient knowledge that we still learn from (the Greeks, the Romans, the Sumerians, etc) would have been lost forever. The Islamic world saved humanity from itself during the Dark Ages.
Christians that REALLY follow Jesus are great people. Too bad I meet so few. Muslims that follow the faith of Islam and do what Muhammed said are the same. Both are the harbingers of peace and respect.
Both Christianity and Islam are wonderful faiths when applied as they should be applied. Too bad there are probably only a handful of people in the world that really do. The rest just use their respective sacred texts as an excuse to get what they want out of this life.
And that's a fact.

They laid the foundations for algebra, trignometry, geometry, and astronomy. They saved the classics for the Renaissance, but the Christians had destroyed them years before.

They don't have to do anything. Christians, Jews, Buddhists, atheists--I don't care what their beliefs are as long as they don't try to force them upon anyone. I'd rather have a morally sound atheist in office than a murderous, hypocritical, lying, supposed "Christian."

You seem to imply that following Jesus is automatically worthy of respect. Are you forgetting the Crusades, or the Inquisition?
But to answer your question, among other things, they brought celestial navigation to Europe, which allowed Europeans to discover the Americas.
They were also responsible for significant advances in architecture, art and mathematics.
