The Clevland Spiders in 1899. Deprived of its talent, the last year of the Spiders team was the worst in major league history, as the club finished 20-134 and lost 40 of their last 41 games of the season. The 1899 Cleveland team trailed 84 games behind the pennant-winning Brooklyn Superbas. Cleveland was 35 games behind the next-to-last (11th) place Washington club.

While the 1962 New York Mets were indeed bad (40-120), at least they had an excuse. They were an expansion team back then. The worst modern team was the 2003 Detroit Tigers, who went 43-119. They easily set the American League record for most losses, and could have owned the Major League record if they didn't decide to play all-out againt a Twins team resting their best players for the playoffs.

1899 Cleveland Spiders of the National League. Not merely bad; historically, epically bad!

The team went 20-134 (.130), finishing 12th out of 12 in the standings, 84 games behind league champion Brooklyn, and 35 games behind 11th place Washington. Not surprisingly, the Spiders were one of four teams contracted after the season; the 1900 NL had only eight teams.

2B Joe Quinn was the hitting star, .286/.312/.345, with 24 doubles. Two pitchers had four wins each.

Longest winning streak: two (May 20-21).

Longest losing streak: 24 (Aug 26 - Sept 16). Plus other streaks of 16, 14, 13, and 11 twice.

The Spiders were so bad they hardly bothered playing home games, because no one would attend. Had one road trip of 50 games (July 3 - Aug 23) and another of 26 (Aug 31 - Sept 23). They played one home game in the last 36 of the schedule. (Things were less rigidly structured back then.)

No other team comes close to this standard of awfulness.

Worst team as in skills - Orlando . Their terrific participant is Arron Alflalo and after that its Tobias Harris and that they have no bench . The bobcats have skills its only no one needs to play in charlotte you place that comparable squad someplace else that they had have a extra effectual checklist . maximum ability - The Pistons they have a destiny front court docket in Drummond and Monroe , they're engaged on Molding Brandon Knight , Few sturdy possibilities and tradable products and cap area , I see the pistons being in the playoffs in 2 years

Statistically, I don't know, but I had to endure an 0-21 start as an Orioles fan back in the 1988.
