get online? Will it just work, or will I have to configure something on my laptop?

just turn airport on and it should find a wireless network and connect to it.

I would also suggest you get the software called Macstumbler, it is shareware (many sites have it). It will identify all the networks nearby, tell you the strength of each and if a password is required to join it. As long as you have an Airport card in the iBook and it is turned on, you can join most any network without reconfiguring anything.

Usually when you start up your internet browser such as Safari, you will get a message stating that it has detected a wireless network, telling you the network name and asking if you want to join. Usually that's all there is to it if the cafe has free wireless. Some hotels and airports feature wireless internet access, but for a price.
