Yes and No ! We always seem to remember the bad things and the good things, but other things just fade away.
Gaius Julius Caesar "Imperator" 100BC-44BC
"The evil that men do, lives after them. The good is oft interred with their bones." Shakespeare

Yes, especially with some types of anti-psychotic medications. Unfortunately, there are those few around you that may pretend to be your friend who like to bring things up that never even happened. Maybe because they have a guilty conscience about something they did in the past you might remember. Maybe you should ask this question in the psychology section as well? Some people believe they've been abducted or have seen ghosts etc. Repressed memories have their own way of coming back to the surface even if they were just delusions.

I don't think it's possible to 'put it behind you' nor do I think I would if it were possible.
Most of us have something in our past that we don't acknowledge on a daily basis. My own personal one is horrible enough that I don't voice it to anyone. It does, though, make me into the person that I am today (which isn't half bad to say so myself). Sure sometimes things happen to trigger an emotional response and I'm still working on getting the most out of those. For now though, I'm working to not so much put it behind me, but let myself be guided by the better parts of who I am.

The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, not to worry about the future, or not to anticipate troubles, but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly.
By Buddha
The only one holding on to your past is you
So look at what is bothering you and look at what you learnt at that moment
When you find the answer it will no longer matter
You need to read a book called
The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment (Paperback) (Author) by Eckhart Tolle

i think it's possible to move on and to keep going with life but i personally don't think it'll ever be possible to put it behind you... your always going to remember it and have the emotions come back to you. All the embarrassing things that happen and all the mistakes you make in life helps form the person you are... dwelling on something is pretty much regretting part of your life, i personally consider the closest way to put something behind you is learning how to smile about it and learning a lesson from it

Sort of. You'll always have memories, but if enough time lapses no one really remembers or cares what you did (or if they do and you've advanced far enough and had enough experiences that bring you away from that past, you certainly don't care about them). You may also see some of the bad as being done almost by a different person.

Yes...I believe so. We are supposed to forgive as if nothing never happened. So...I think the same can be true with anyone wanting to let go of the past. Bad memories are not worth holding onto anyway..so I focus on the happier times and live life to the fullest!

You could come to feel less strongly about the things that had happened. But you can't rewrite or make the past disappear so you can never really put it behind you.

Your past is always behind you. It's up to you as to whether or not you continue to revisit it, though.
