It doesn't matter, Roger will win about 16-17 Grand Slam titles when he retired and that is enough in my book to equal Steffi Graf. Why? Because I strongly believe that if Monica Seles wasn't stabbed by a Graf fan, Graf would not have 22 Grand Slam titles. If you look back you will see that Monica was beating Graf in some of the tournaments at the time just like what Nadal is doing to Roger Federer right now. Unfortunately after the stabbing incident Monica was never the same player. Just like if someone stab Nadal, Roger would of have 2 French titles under his belt already.

Yes it's possible but Steffi did something that I don't think that Roger will ever do, get a 'Golden Slam'. Roger can reach maybe 17-19 titles easily, but he needs to win the French Open more than once to break the record. You have to realize though, Steffi was ranked number 1 for 377 non-consecutive weeks, a record in mens and womens tennis, that is 91 weeks more than Sampras did and she ended the year number 1 for 8 years. She just re-wrote the record books more than Roger has so far. It will be tough for Federer to win over 22 grand slams because he would need to win at least 11 more to tie, so if he doesn't continue to win the French, he needs to win all of the other 3 grand slams for the next 4 years. That is tough to ask of him, although someday he will win the French, I hope that it is in 2008 though... Richard: Steffi won 22 singles grand slam titles and won one doubles slam, Wimbledon in 1988.

I think it is unlikely that Roger Federer will match Steffi Graf's record of 22 Grand Slam titles. While Roger is dominant, there are still a number of players (including Nadal) who are capable of beating him. Thinking back to when Steffi Graf was dominating the field, there were very few players who could, even on a good day, match her overwhelming abilities. I think it is unlikely (though certainly not impossible) that Federer will be able to maintain his dominance long enough to give him 22 Grand Slam titles.

Why are you comparing a men's record with that of a woman.....I really don't understand the reason behind this.????

Men and women play two vastly different games.....why don't you comapre his overall singles titles record with John McEnroe's staggering ...77???
Steffi Graf was undoubtedly on of the best ones the game gave us,....and the same or even more for Roger on the men's side....I still fail to understand.......WHY ARE YOU COMPARING ROGER FEDERER WITH STEFFI GRAF...???
Even if you consider only the no....i.e...22...it is really hard for him to achieve that number of slams....especially when guys like Nadal and Djokovic are around.....and yes..don't forget..there's Andy Murray...

Mathematically, it is possible.

Roger is now 26 years old which gives him at least 3-4 more years of top flight tennis barring any injuries.

If in that 3-4 year period he somehow maintains his ridiculous slam haul rate of 3 per year, he should have 9-12 slams by the time he's in his 30's, which will give him a total of 20-23 slams.

Important thing to note is that Federer's been remarkably blessed in his career that he hasn't had any major injuries to deal with. Chalk it up to playing only a handful of events every year (~ 15-16 tourneys max).

I don't think so. In my opinion, the most Roger will win is 15 or 16 slams. The reason for this is his fitness. I don't think he can dominate tennis once he turns 29 or 30. Also, Roddick, Rafa, Andy Murray and a lot of youngsters are really stepping up. Roger will be a legend but there is no way he will reach 22 Slams.
* Roddick will be favorite for US Open.

Thanks for question and God Bless...

No. I wish that he did it would be great but he is only at 11 now and doesn't play doubles enough to get any help. He is doing it single handed through singles. Only 3 per year assuming he wins all 3 it would take 4 more years to accomplish and their are too many younger players coming up that are going to make it difficult for him to accomplish. His level of play is also diminishing compared to a couple of years ago. I can see 17 before he retires but not 22.

Yes I believe that Federer can do it , and probably he'll win more. I dont like Federer but his game is very effective. Nadal is also there, but Nadals game is very "phisical" (he has to run too much and counterpounch more than anyone else in order to win his points), Therfore i think that soon or later Nadal will or could get injured and this will be "very" beneficial to Federer.

I probably love Federer more than anyone in Yahoo Answers and even I don't see that happening. I do see 17, 18 tops. I think he will set a record that won't be surpassed by any other male player.I would be so happy to see him do it though.Great question.
