OR SHOULD I get a back pack

If it really is big and can hold all of your books/notebooks/binders I think a tote bag is a great idea! They are really cute and I see a lot of girls using them.

I think a backpack because well, there are heavy books and I guess a lot of heavy-duty textbooks. (that is what it looks like when I sneak into my brother's room for the computer ^^)
WELL, with a tote bag, the seams may not be able to endure the weight and they may break. Plus, when it rains, the tote bag will not be able to handle the dampness and it will soak the contents whereas a backpack has a water-proof lining.
Backpacks are built to endure the weight also; the seams will not break as easily.
Also, it's more comfortable to wear a backpack because the tote may irritate your shoulder muscles which may also cause some posture problem (I've seen people have that because of messenger bags and tote bags)
But besides that, I think tote bags are wonderful, good for when you go to the library. I'm going into 9th grade also but I'm buying a backpack (after which my brother got irritated with a messenger bag; he advised me to use a backpack). However, I want to also buy a tote bag so that if I don't have a lot of books, I can bring that to school instead. Gonna use it for the first day of school ^^

Sure. Switching up from the normal is always good. A tote bag is a great way to step into the more adult world.
There are going to be some days when you have to carry more books than usual. So if you want, you can have a back-pack stored away in you locker just incase.
But I say go for the tote bag idea! Good choice!

Yeah I also have a hug tote for high school, it depends on what the tote looks like. And yes its a good idea to carry a large tote because in high school teachers are strict about homework and whatnot so you can put all of your homework into your bag so you don't forget instead of your locker, its much more practical than those tiny ae bags every ones been carrying around lately.

YOU HAVE HIGH SCHOOL DOWN MISSY... totes are great for high school because then you can throw in your books if you want and stuff like that. i brought both though. i carried around the tote during the day and used the backpack to bring stuff home only because the one shoulder thing is uncomfortable and i didnt want to face the risk of breaking the bag. i would say if its really big..you may want to get a smaller one for walking around school because big totes are kinda hard for classtime. your best bet is trying it out for the first couple weeks, then sticking with it or doing something else.

Well I'm going to a Sophomore in high school, and last year, only guys carried back packs. For girls it's kind of dorky =] I used a HUGE Abercrombie and Fitch tote bag and it worked wonderful. I kept my life in it!... =] Just a warning, if it's white, make sure you wash it every week when you do your laundry because the color might start to fade! and for your makeup and other stuff keep in separate bags to its easier to find... hope this helps you =]

If it's big enough to carry everything and not too heavy, keep the tote! But if it hurts your shoulder, spring for a bookbag. Even with a messenger bag, too much weight on one shoulder is bad for you and can mess up your alignment. Bookbags are better for your back. But like I said, if it's not hurting your shoulder, tote all the way. They're uber cute! =]

if you think balancing a bag on either side of you while heavy books and folders are in it then keep the tote bag, but for the 1st day of school, i think u should carry a back pack for all the books that your bringing to and from school.

I think tote bags are cute. :)
However, it may be more convenient to get a backpack since they have alot more storage. Plus, totepags don't hold too many things. Maybe a book or two, plus a binder. That's probably it though.
It's completely up to you. I don't think it's really a bad idea, but if you could use the space then get a backpack. Good luck!

I think the tote bag is fine. I just finished 9th grade in June, and a lot of girls had tote bags.
