...think that Jennifer Ellison (Brit tv actress) is an idiot? She stayed with her moronic boyfriend who beat seven bells out of her constantly for six years. They have no kids, she is a rich woman, and they weren't married -so she can't claim that she was trapped, had nowhere to go, and no money to leave.

She then dumps him - not because he abused her appallingly, but because he cheated on her.

BEFORE ANYONE STARTS TRYING TO SHOOT ME: I am not for a moment suggesting that battered women who stay are idiots. In this case though, she has no excuse. And NO, it's definitely not Ellison's fault that this 'man' is a brainless thug, but she could have got up and refused to take it any more. she had the means to do so and was not tied into the relationship.

Like several other people here, I also grew up seeing my mother being abused by my father.

Ellison proves herself to be an idiot with this comment:

"I can't understand why he would throw away a beautiful life with me for a girl like Shalimar — she's not even good looking."

Since when was six years of being battered and attacked with bottles by a thug defined as "a beautiful life"? As for the 'good looking' bit, what a shallow and pointless comment.

There are so many women out there who are stuck in abusive relationships where kids are seeing dreadful violence, and many of these women genuinely feel that they are worthless enough to have to put up with it. Plenty of others WOULD leave but are in too much financial difficulty to leave without assistance from elsewhere. (I agree, they should seek help to get out in these cases.) Ellison has made a mockery of them with her own stupidity. Sorry.

No woman deserves that treatment, ever, and yes, it is hard to leave when you love someone - but if you have means of escape and don't use it, then don't go whining to the press about it just because you are a celebrity and expect sympathy.

No woman deserves that kind of treatment, yet because of poor self esteem they stay because they feel they are worth nothing better. This feeling comes about usually after repeated episodes of violence / mind-games. So, she buys him expensive gifts to try to prove that she loves him, and she is worth something - maybe trying to make up for something that is clearly missing in the relationship.....but then he cheats on her and breaks her heart.

I don't really care how she got her "wake up call" about the guy - all that matters is she has, and she has got away from him, and will never go back to him. All women are princesses and only deserve to be with a man who will treat us that way!

I agree she was an idiot but then again what did he have over her to make her stay and endure this treatment for so long and he was properly cheating on her throughout the whole time he was abusing her. She must be a very sad woman to take so much for so long.

She didn't deserve it, no woman does, but she was a fool to stay, and her comments make her look like a shallow little girl. I pity her, but I wouldn't say she is 'brave', I'd say she was naive and silly, and expects sympathy for her own daftness.

Edit: Dolly - quite right. But I think what people are trying to say is that there ARE plenty of women who would actually leave had they the means to do so. Obviously in lots of cases this is not a major factor, but in many it is.

I agree with Dolly k, i grew up in a household with a violent man, the only reason most women don't get rid is cos they are scared or so down trodden they think they can not do any better and even deserve what they get.

My mate did security fittings for battered women who had been housed because of violence by partner in family home. Most of them then took the violent partner to live with them in the house they were given as a safe house to live in with special security features. It beggars belief but that's what the idiots do. The ones who move their abusive partner in with them deserve everything they get.
