"If you or your pet (usually a dog) is sprayed by a skunk, don't bother with the old tomato juice bath. It doesn't help. The best way to get rid of the smell is to combine hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and liquid dish soap, and immediately shampoo with that. If sprayed in the eyes, flush them with water."

The stuff you buy in the store worked much better for me. I didn't think the tomato did much for the smell but my dog sure wondered why I was putting food all over her. If you are in a bind and need to make a lot of something than I found online that if you put Hydrogen Peroxide, baking soda and a small amount of dish soap that gets rid of the smell. I used it on my dog and on the house where the skunk sprayed and it worked real well and it is inexpensive. I did read somewhere that it can bleach some dog's hair and make it lighter. My dog is black with some brown and I didn't have that problem.

The best thing to use is store bought feminine douche. You want the kind that has a high vinegar content. Sounds disgusting but trust me, it is ALOT better than tomato juice! This is what the federal lawe enforcement academy recommended to a friend of mine who has an arson dog.

Tomato juice works well. Use full strength, then rinse. May take two or three times to totally remove the smell.

I used the home remedy of tomato juice on a long haired German shepherd several years ago and found the results satisfactory. Used dish detergent after reducing odor with several large cans of tomato juice and rinsed thoroughly.

We used tomato juice...tomato sauce also works. Get a couple cans and bathe them in it, then hose it off. Good luck :)
