As long as you are using a G wireless router the brand does not matter. But if using the N router it is best to use the same brand because the standards for N are not formalized yet. When they are it will not matter as long as they meet the new standards.

Short answer: No you don't, not at all.
However, a lot of companies will make it simpler to install and configure if you have the same, for example, linksys has a one touch secure connection configuration utility. The benefits of using the same equipment however ends just there, it's a matter of convenience, and only in the first hour or so that you own it.

The has THE answer to your question; it makes financial (eBay and 2nd hands don't count), sometimes convenience although harder to judge performance sense to do so.
But eBay and 2nd hands will twist the incentives upside-down if you can find deals there.
