As long as you are using a G wireless router the brand does not matter. But if using the N router it is best to use the same brand because the standards for N are not formalized yet. When they are it will not matter as long as they meet the new standards.

The benefits of using the same equipment however ends just there, it's a matter of convenience, and only in the first hour or so that you own it.

The has THE answer to your question; it makes financial (eBay and 2nd hands don't count), sometimes convenience although harder to judge performance sense to do so.

But eBay and 2nd hands will twist the incentives upside-down if you can find deals there.
