Hi,

I assume this is a system of 2 equations that you wanted to solve. (Then it's only 1 problem, not 2.)

-x + 3y = 0
-5x + 2y = -13

Solve the top equation for x.

x = 3y

Now substitute 3y for x in the second equation.

-5(3y) + 2y = -13
-15y + 2y = -13
-13y = -13
y = 1

Plugging this back in the first equation, solve for x.

-x + 3y = 0
-x +3(1) = 0
-x = -3
x = 3

The answer is x = 3 and y = 1 or (3,1)

I hope that helps!! :-)

Hey there! Are you learning algebra? this part of algebra is called system of equations.

Here is how i did it:

-x+3y=0
-5x+2y=-13

add x on both sides to make x=3y
then substitute x=3y in the equation of -5x+2y=-13

you get this:

-5(3y)+2y=-13
Multiply -5 and 3y to get
-15y+2y=-13

Then add the y values to get

-13y=-13
Then divide both sides:
y=1
Then substitue y=1 in x=3y
to get x=3

Answer: (3,1)

Have a good day!

-x + 3y = 0
-x = - 3y
x/3 = y

-5x + 2y = 13
-5x +2x/3 =13
-13/3x = 13
x/3 = -1

x=-1/3

-(-1/3)+3y = 0
1 +9 y = 0
y = -1/9
