Here's an estimate with logic:

There are 12,000 BTU per ton of A/C. So your unit is 5000 BTU/12,000 BTU/ Ton= .42 Tons

Basic rule of thumb is that it takes one horsepower per ton. So rounding up your unit is taking .5 Horsepower. A horse power is = 746 Watts but we will call it 1000 Watts because your running fans and stuff too. That leaves an estimated draw of 500 Watts.

500 Watts = .5KW
.5KW x 24 hours/day x 30 days/month = 360 KWH ( Kilowatt hours)

I'm assuming an electrical rate of $0.10/KWH
360 KWH x .10 $/KWH = $36.00

Throw in a fudge factor and it goes to $50.

Anything wrong with my logic??

Edit: Add the $36 to $50 to your bill when you were running no heat and no air-conditioning and you should have a good idea of what your bill will run. Note that the estimate above is based on your A/C cooling with compressor on 24 hours /day, 7 days per week.

I lived in NY for 44 years, one of the reasons I moved is the high cost of electric. If you have your air conditioner on when you are home and turn it off when you go to work, you are making a mistake. Leave it on all the time. It will have to work harder to catch up if you don't, thus costing you more electric. What your bill will be I have no clue, but I know mine is cheaper. Live in Florida now, have 3 air conditioners going all day and night each 10,000 each and my electric bill is 97 a month.

Any unit that is 110 will have a higher bill. If you can manage a 120 and have a outlet it won't have to work as hard and it will keep your Electric bill somewhat cheaper.
If you don't have an outlet maybe the landlord will have one installed for you.

on the average the fan itself consumes about .75 kw hours daily. Now add the the a/c and you use about 12 kw a day. Multiply that times your kw hour cost and you have your answer.

Your bill will go up by at least 30-50 bucks.
