to be honest,The JB's were a funk/soul/r&b band, they backed the late great James Brown, their hits are Doing It To Death and Pass The Peas, which are my favorites, the Temptations are the greatest vocal group to ever hit the scene, dancing and moving, their hits are My Girl and The Way You Do The Things You Do,so many others!!.its hard to compare a band with a vocal group, but i love both of them!! but in this sense, imma go with The Temps..lets put the temps against the o'jays or 4 tops

In my opinion these are way too different of bands to even compare. The Temptations being very talented vocalists but didn't write a lot of their own material or play the instruments on the recordings. Berry Gordy, the Funk Brothers and lots of great writers should be credited.
The J.B.'s under the leadership of the late great James Brown and Fred Wesley set the standard for the FUNK grooves that are still used to this very day. Names like Maceo Parker, Bobby Byrd, Clyde Stubblefield, Bootsy Collins, etc. are true master musicians and hands down one of the best backing bands of all-time.
