No. The vast majority of what happens is outside public awareness.

In fact, even what people do in their jobs at the White House is so secret, that White House staffers are not allowed to answer the question "what does your job entail" because answering that question would harm national security.

(See the recent Congressional hearings where Rove's deputy refused to give his job description because of executive privilege).

No we dont. Congress is bad but the way the govt runs can be absolutely crazy. Unfortunately if someone speaks up concerning waste or has a better idea on how to make a program work better they are basically transferred out of that dept or placed in a meaningless job. Govt waste is rampant. In many cases govt agencies that oversee similar functions or companies dont even know what is going on.

No.
IMHO, Sweetpea has a point, but the Executive branch has a much greater potential for secrecy and damage. A majority of the presidents since 1950 have lied to us in substantial ways. SUPPORT THE FREE PRESS!

Congress does not even know what the executive branch is doing. The president has the right to keep executive information from Congress. This could change soon. But what is important for the people to know they are able to know. There are many things that the people don't need to know.

not really. the gov. thinks we are on a "need to know" basis only. we learn about things years later...when our knowledge poses no threat to their objectives. many things are done behind the scenes while the public is given distractions. no administration is immune to it.
we, however, are blessed with the freedom to speak out, openly investigate, and call out for accountability. God bless America!
