Not at all, in fact the older (late 80's-early 90's) blazers are very popular with hot rodders/racers/customizers. Lot's of people like to lower them and put V8's in them, then they shave the tail lights, french the licence plates. I know someone who has one with a 400HP 350 in it and runs it at local drag strip. A 2001 is still a bit too new to see many modified ones but it's day is coming for sure.

out of style? I don't think so.
Vehicle style is really personal preference though. Right now SUVs in general are under attack for being gas guzzlers, but the Blazer isn't too bad for an SUV. It's a 2 door, so some will say it's not as practical. But unless you regularly have more than two people in the car, it's not much of an issue.
